Beginning snowboard gear?
Ok heres the deal. I live in california and i want to learn how to snowboard. I want to make sure that i enjoy it before i spend lots of money on it tho. I can rent the board and stuff at the summit. but i want to get some basic gear. I already have a jacket..lol…yup…thats it. So im guessing im going to need pants…gloves….boots….and maybe some undergarments? But like i said im new to this. I DONT want to spend hundreds of dollars on something yet…where can i get cheaper gear than most of the stuff im seeing? i dont wanna spend 400+ dollars on this basic stuff. Where can i get more basic stuff? any help plz. or any tips on getting started in this sport…
Like that dude said, you can rent boots at the hill. The only things you really need are gloves and a nice pair of waterproof pants cause you’ll likely spend most of the day on your bum. Don’t worry too much about fancy underwear, mid layers, snowboarding socks and all that stuff. Just wear a hoody or sweater under your jacket, sweat pants or PJ bottoms under your pants and dress socks (I did that once accidentally about 8 years ago and have never gone back). For the pants check out some local boardshops for stuff on sale. You should be able to get a nice pair of pants for seventy bucks on sale. If not check out www.dogfunk.com and if you look at www.whiskeymilitia.com often enough you may see a pair on there. Gloves are important and I’d recommend spending a little extra and getting a gore tex pair. They’ll keep you happy. On sale your looking at about thirty to fifty bucks. All together about $110 for some nice gear. With your jacket, pants and gloves you’ll be protected from getting wet which is the biggest issue. Get creative and use what you have to insulate underneath. Good luck out there!
