Cheap Snowboarding Helmets

Should we get a snowboard?

My brother is 14 and short so we were wondering if we should get a snowboard for a year or more. We go to a place called roundtop every saturday during season but we miss a few. We get advantage cards and he would get rentals. Its about 24.00 every time and 10.00 for a helmet. We want to get a used one for like 100 – 200 dollars still in good shape, but cheap since he will outgrow it. If so do you know a good reliable place to get a board boots and bindings. So should we get it?

Well, if you do buy a board, you want to know it will not go to waste. Renting is expensive, but really a privledge. It allows you to find your preference in measurements, brands, etc. The fact that you are unsure what brand and if you should get a board makes me think you should wait it out just a little longer. Finding a nice, cheap board is not easy. I recommend demo-ing. Most resorts have one or more demo shops, which allow you to try out skis and boards before you buy them, (you are not obligated to afterwards) so that you can see how different models ride and such. That way, you get a feel for what you really want, what you really need. This is because it is difficult to chose a snowboard until you know exactly what you like to ride, where, how often and how well. If you do invest in a snowboard, I would look into a camber board (instead of rockered), seeing as round top is in PA, and the east tends to get a lot less snow. I camber board will help you perform and carve better on hard pack. Good luck and have fun !
